Turkish Hens and Chicks grow to be small shrubs with woody stems and small rosette style flowers. The leaves are fuzzy and green with red margins if you expose this succulent to full sun. This plant grows similar to Sempervivum varieties, forming mat-like clusters. A beautiful succulent to grow as ground cover in a nice shady spot in your garden, or to use as a filler for your succulent arrangements and crafts.

Native to: Canary Islands, Maderia, Morocco, East Africa

Zone: 9, 10, 11

Hardiness: tender soft succulent - will not tolerate frost

Recommended light conditions: dappled or part shade

Bloomtime: Summer

Bloom Color: white

Watering Needs Indoors: Instead of giving your succulents gradual sips of water throughout the week, give them a good soaking, to the point where water runs out the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot. Be sure to empty the water that runs into the saucer, succulents do not like to sit in water. Then let the soil dry out completely before watering again.

Watering Needs Outdoors: In the Summer water your succulents every two weeks, by soaking them and letting them dry before watering again. In the Winter water your succulents once a month.

Technical Information About This Plant

  • Requires bright light for most of the day. Or constant dappled shade.
  • Best to water every 2 weeks. Avoiding letting water sit in the rosette.
  • Available in small and medium size (based on availability)

Love it

This plant looks and behaves a little different than I expected, but it's still beautiful. A little delicate looking from what I'm used to. It's growing well though.

Love them!!

Could not believe how many little “chicks” there were with these mamas!! Hoping to have enough to send all my students home with their own little chick at the end of the year. They are so excited!

Quite adorable

Looked a little peaked when it arrived but water and light helped some, and getting it repotted helped a lot. Didn't look exactly as I expected but it is a very adorable little plant and I'm really happy to have it.
